Taster course, license to play & Co

Each of our 29 branches has up to 10 partner golf clubs that offer attractive models for getting started in golf. We will be happy to advise you in our branches on the options and all topics relating to your start in golf.

The first steps

... in the world of golf are usually made in a taster course. Here you make your first swings and are introduced to the basics of golf. In addition to the first swing tips, you will also get a brief insight into the rules of golf. Clubs and balls are usually provided by the trainer. We recommend light sports shoes and, if necessary, a glove.

The course qualification

The "driving license" for golfers is the next logical step in your golf career after a taster course and entitles you to play on many golf courses in Germany. The course license test is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. To pass the theory part, you have to pass a rules test and answer questions about etiquette and behavior on the course. In the practical part, you go out on the course with your trainer, play complete golf courses from tee to green and have to prove your knowledge of the rules of golf once again. But don't worry, every golf career starts small!

The golf course license: what it means, who needs it and what it costs

Almost everyone who has ever come into contact with golf knows the term. But when it comes to the details of what the so-called course licence means, many people have to pass. However, the golf licence is actually not complicated at all. Just as a driving licence makes us fit for the road, a golf test confirms that we are ready for the golf course - the course licence. Anyone can try out golf with a taster lesson. These are usually inexpensive and of course nobody needs their own equipment for these trial lessons. However, if you are subsequently infected by the golf virus and want to play regularly, there is no getting round the licence to play. The corresponding course costs 300 to 400 euros - and there are regular and irregular follow-up costs.

DGV course licence: what to expect on the golf course licence course

Attendance and payment of the invoice are not sufficient to obtain the golf licence. The golf licence course is held by a pro who will teach you the technique of the game, rules and etiquette in around twelve lessons. There are also three examination hours. The exam is again divided into a written multiple-choice test, a course inspection and the practical part. To prepare for the exam, it is advisable to thoroughly familiarise yourself with the book "DGV-Platzreife: Golfregeln in Frage und Antwort" published by the DGV. The DGV also offers a paid app (€7.49) with all 170 exam questions for Android and iOS. For the practical part, it is best to practise in individual lessons with a pro. This costs around 50 euros per hour. There are no additional costs, as the equipment is provided. However, some beginners invest in gloves or their first clothing.

After the golf course licence, things really get going

The golf licence is the ticket to "real golfing life". Now you can access the vast majority of golf courses without any problems. You are also only now accepted as a member of golf clubs. And if you want even more, you can also take part in tournaments with your licence to play. The flip side of the coin: while it was comparatively inexpensive to get a licence to play golf, the aforementioned follow-up costs now have to be paid. Although full membership of the local golf club offers unlimited access to the local green (and other benefits such as handicap management), it also costs at least €1,000 per year. So-called long-distance memberships are cheaper (from 200 euros). With this variant, however, a green fee is added to the round. On average, this costs around 40 euros. Golf clubs are available in the Golfhouse webshop from 349 euros. And if you really want to immerse yourself in golf, you won't want to do without golf shoes, a trolley and the right clothing. Despite all these costs, golf is no longer a millionaire's sport. Regular skiing holidays, kiteboarding or ambitious road biking tear similar or larger holes in the wallet and are of course less fun.
